The Símbolo benches were designed specifically for MASA Galería exhibition in Oaxaca around Cuban artist Ana Mendieta, 'ELEMENTOS VITALES: ANA MENDIETA IN OAXACA' where several women artists were invited to intervene in the spaces of Mendieta's videos. Creating a functional installation where people could interact with the pieces and use them to view Mendieta's works.

Pieces exhibited at MASA Galería Exhibitions:
'ELEMENTOS VITALES: ANA MENDIETA IN OAXACA' Mexico City, 2021.
’MASA INC.’ Mexico City, 2022.
’INTERVENCIÓN / INTERSECCIÓN’ at the Rockefeller Plaza in New York, 2022.

Símbolo

As the exhibition was aimed at the participation of women artists, starting with the curatorship of Su Wu, the female part of EWE Studio (at that time Age Salajoe and Daniela Guzmán) was the main part of the team involved in the creation of these pieces.
Hand carved in white and green onyx, the Símbolo benches are inspired in the diverse beliefs practiced in Mexico through centuries and the symbolism surrounding those beliefs. How quick they were to communicate often complex ideas and represent the transition between the finite and the infinite world of the deities.
